If you realize that you can burn wood you find on the trail, the weight factor is good. No cans of gas to carry and take up room in your pack. No running out of fuel unless you are in an alpine region.

Setting it up looks intimidating, but once you've done it once it is super easy. You do need to be constantly feeding it sticks or it will go out, but again, that's pretty easy once you know. Also it fits perfectly in the MSR 500 mL pot, which then fits in the carrying case that this comes with. Like they were meant to be.

I have never used a stove of this sort before. The TOMSHOO did not disappoint. I found it to work amazingly well - excellent protection from wind, easy to refuel in use, and it gets quite nicely hot. I love the simplicity of this kind of stove, and the fact that it requires one to make use of environmental resources. I can't wait to use it again. Clearly a lot of design work went into this stove, and the result is excellent functionality. I recommend it without reservation.
