This 4k UHD action camera is ideal for recording sports activities, in particular underwater videos and still shots, at a maximum depth of 45m when operated inside it's waterproof case (supplied with the camera). When removed from it's waterproof protective case, the camera measures only 59mm wide x 41.3mm high x 22.8mm thick, excluding the lens which protrudes another 6.3mm, and only weighs 67g. A rubberised exterior coating helps to provide a firm grip. I've used it with the adapter frame provided, both as a car dash cam and to view images/video from a telescope by attaching it to the eyepiece. Video recorded at 4k resolution (3840 x 2160 pixels @ 15fps) is very detailed but does incur the inevitable 'fish eye' distortion effects from the 170 degree, ultra-wide angle lens. A class 10 MicroSD memory card (up to 128GB) needs to be installed as there's no memory fitted as supplied. When used inside the confines of it's transparent acrylic case, the camera is fully protected from water ingress and dust by means of a silicone seal around the rear hinged door. Unlike some other action cameras I've used, this one doesn't feature a safety button on the door release latch, so care needs to be taken, especially when operating the camera underwater to prevent accidentally opening the case. The camera's operating buttons line up exactly with the externally-operated buttons fitted to the case. These are designed to used when the camera is fully submerged so the seals are quite resilient so as to prevent water ingress, although this does result in slightly more force being required. Using the camera is quite straightforward. Holding down the front-mounted MODE selection / POWER button, switches it on. This button now selects one-of-four options following each momentary press as follows: - Video Mode: This is the default mode from power-on. Pressing the OK button starts or stops a recording. - Photo Still Mode: Pressing the OK button takes a photo. - Movie Playback Mode. - Still Shot Playback Mode. The side-mounted, UP or DOWN buttons, select the video or photo, whilst playback / pause is selected by pressing the OK button respectively. Setting up the action camera is achieved from any of the above modes by pressing and holding the DOWN button until the setup menu is displayed. Numerous adjustments are possible from the very comprehensive menu. The UP or DOWN buttons allow scrolling and the OK button is used to select a menu item. A short press on the MODE / POWER button exits the settings. Holding the latter button down switches the camera off. One of the impressive features of this action camera kit is the comprehensive amount of accessories which have been included. Numerous bases, adapters, and GoPro style switch supports etc. have been included, so it's easy to attach the camera to a helmet or handlebars of a bicycle etc. Copying files from the camera is achieved by connecting the Micro USB data / charging cable. The rechargeable battery is good for around two hours of recorded video with the LCD screen turned off. The camera must be removed from the case to allow a connection to both the micro USB port and/or micro HDMI port. Being Wi-Fi enabled, the camera can communicate and allow remote viewing on an Android or IOS device after installing the App (QR codes for both operating systems are provided).
