I combined this with a monopod for supporting a heavy f2.8 tele lens. This has locking screws for all three degrees of freedom and after a little adjustment, allowed me to pan and elevate to follow the action for lacrosse games while still supporting the majority of the weight of my lens. Saved my back!

I use this for my pro camera and a virtual tour camera which is quite heavy over 6#. The ball head keeps everything where you set it. With the two friction knobs, I can slightly tighten as needed to allow some movement in the equipment without the head fighting my adjustment. This allows to move my camera snugly to adjust for composition or leveling alignment and yet feel secure.

Don't what more expensive units like this do but they've got to be similar. Not sure why you'd want to spend more money. This is solid and appears to be well built.

Added this 2nd head to my RANGERS tripod when I left my other head at a friends. Works perfect. Fluid, feels professional for a consumer (not even prosumer) price. I'm not sure I'm 100% sold on the 2 ball adjustment knobs however.

Super sturdy. Use it on my graphite monopod, also bought from Walmart. I keep the slide mount on the camera all the time, does not add much to the camera.
