No idea what the universal AC outlet thing is but the USB part is great! (Possibly going on an international trip next year though so I wanted to have something on hand). This thing is pretty small for all it does. I have this hooked up and use it to keep my phone and tablet charged while I am at work. This does the job well and only consumes one outlet which is a bonus. The plastic on this thing seems to be ridiculously thick so it should hold up to whatever. The plug seats in my outlets and does not fall out. I received this product at a discount in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. Great addition to my travel bag. This plus a universal plug adapter does the job, and the pass-thru power socket lets me replug the desk lamp or alarm clock who's power socket I appropriated to plug this charger in. Can't wait for a model with flip down prongs.

This item works well as it doesn't block a plug and you can use it as an adapter to plug in non-US plugs. This product is as described and charges pretty quickly. A blue light comes on when you plug it in so it lets you know that it's got power. If you use this wall charger in an outlet strip it will take up 2 outlets unfortunately but still worth getting in my opinion. I received this item at a discount or free in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.
