So far, this has worked very well for me. The main function I mainly use it is to find the stud behind the dry wall, but it can also be used to detect live wires. When using one of them, turn on each switch in that area. I am an electrician and this tool is much cheaper than hiring me or a drywall machine for a repair. When you receive this tool, make sure to take a few minutes to use it before making a hole in the wall to thoroughly understand how to use it, especially if you have never used the stud finder before. For example, I noticed some 1-star reviews that the device was calibrated away from the wall, and then users were frustrated because they couldn't detect any studs with it. Of course it doesn't work anymore, it is calibrated wrong. Lean it against the wall during calibration, otherwise your readings will be worthless. This is my first purchase of this brand of stud finder. I have some other tools, I tend to like them at first, but I find that they have a shorter lifespan than most of my other tools.
