This is a very suitable tester for personal use. All the tests I have done are fully in line with what they should do based on alcohol consumption and time. We are very happy that we bought it, that's for sure, but if your lifestyle includes driving to a bar or driving to a friend's house for a drink, this is a very useful tool that can save you tens of thousands of dollars and your life. When you consider the cost of driving under the influence: it might kill someone (and/or yourself), felony charges, time in jail, destroyed vehicle, revoke your license... none of them are meaningless. Of course, it is always better to have a designated driver, but it is great to have this as a reference for your level of intoxication when you go out alone at night.

Our previous breath tester took a full minute to be ready-sometimes longer. This can be done in less than 15 seconds. As long as you follow the instructions and wait 10-15 minutes after you finish eating or drinking anything, before blowing in, this seems pretty accurate. About 10 minutes after drinking the last glass of wine one night, my husband blew a 0.20 sound, then after drinking for a while, he blew another 0.07 sound. (When he blows about half an hour later without anything else to eat or drink, he is still 0.09.) If you want to make sure you are safe before driving, it’s worth it.
