Only works "without" a pre-amp if you push down on it with my finger at least using my small portable Roland Cube amp. I have it on the top below the bridge of my inexpensive camp fire guitar and once its stuck its on there good (although I was able to move it once without any damage). With my acoustic simulator pedal it works just fine and has good sound. My rating of only three is because I didn't want to use a pre-amp which is the only reason that for under $10 I would not buy another myself . My other sound hole pickups work just fine on the Roland on their own but they don't fit in the sound hole for this guitar so a Uke might have this same issue.

As advertised

I bought this to make a stompbix and it works great for that, but I would never use this for any sort of string instrument. It's not terrible, I'm just not restricted to this budget and would highly recommend a better option if you plan on using it to play in front of an audience.

Piezo pickups are sometimes harsh in nature that is no exception for this one. Used for my acoustic guitar very harsh i placed mine near the bridge and it was pretty much unusable... It is not on my guitar anymore... Also the adhesive was almost to sticky I would be careful if using it on an expensive instrument.

The microphone housing popped apart as soon as I took it out of the packaging. I super glued it back together, so we cool. It seem to work nice, for the price.
