Works ok but not that powerful

Great panel for causal use but with the usb attached the way it is it hard to mount for permanent use. I would look at a panel that has it's own cord.

Got 10% charge if in direct sun.

This works surprisingly well for the price and size. The weight listed is correct at 2.9oz, but the power rating is way over optimistic. I think this would pass for a 5W advertised panel and I was able to measure almost 4W delivered to my battery under ideal conditions. As other reviewers stated, the USB port will come off easily when the panel gets hot, so be careful when unplugging! I wanted to re-purpose this panel for use with a different voltage regulator, so I peeled off the USB port ( voiding any warranty) and measure the panel properties directly: Voc 6.6V Isc .82A Vmpp 5.6V , 3.9W This was measured on a cool day with direct sunlight, immediately upon exposing the panel to sunlight. It was also very tolerant of not being pointed directly at the sun. So as long as you don't expect to get the full advertised power and are careful with the USB port, I think you will be happy with this product.

I needed a very lightweight solar charging option for an upcoming backpacking trip. I tried several different solar panels and this one was a great balance of weight, output and cost.

  • QHi, my order arrived 31August the parcel was completely flattened and panels had scratches and marks on them, I hoped they would still work so I connected a phone via USB and it seemed to be charging ok after 30mins I looked to see progress and found it had lost 30percent of power from start at 40percent ,the phone batterie was now at 10percent i then tried my Kindle again it started to charge ok after a while it had stopped and the Kindle would not work I had to take battery out of Kindle and wait a while and replaced the battery before it would work. I don't want to send back because of the length of time waiting for replacement. any body have same problems. Regards.
