TRONXY X5SA PRO High Precision 3D Printer DIY Kit

The assembly of the printer went relatively well. A plastic piece was missing from the box that is used to mount the filament sensor. However, I was able to create a functional replacement out of a piece of balsa wood. After tuning the printer for several days I'm not entirely pleased with the print quality. The exterior walls are not well aligned as one would expect from a correctly assembled printer. There is a noticeable variation of wall thickness rising all the way up the print at irregular intervals. This suggests that the problem is inherent to the machine and not to a simple fix like z axis wobble. All belts are properly tightened and there is no play in the pulley setup that might explain the source of the problem. I am unable to improve print quality any further at this time. The printer is very rigid and seems solidly built. The user interface is not always intuitive, and it seems most new users crash the printhead into the bed on their first print because it is not clear that one needs to run the "z-offset" program after assembling the printer. The printing surface grips filament very well with zero bed adhesion problems, but I have only used PLA filament so far. Although the print quality is not up to the level I want, I have had zero print failures. I would not recommend this printer for a first time owner, it is best for an experienced 3D printer hobbyist because it requires additional tuning and expertise to troubleshoot issues.

Kit has good parts pretty easy to put together but time consuming as mention before kit not for beginners having some knowledge on how your axis work an how to adjust is important offsetting z axis most important or your bed will crash into your bed an will have a bunch of stab marks an a lot of frustration. Once you have calibration all done the printer prints pretty good with light stringing an best features is the resume print from when power cuts out I tested this worked amazing an auto sensor is nice eliminates a lot of bed leveling hassle but probably my favorite feature is how silent it is when printing. The build size is also amazing can print some rather large projects

I’m giving 5 stars because I believe overall this is what enthusiast would want out of a printer. I, on the other hand, am a complete beginner, so I had some serious struggles the first couple weeks. Assembly is a little difficult. I am mechanically inclined and it still took me 6 hours or so to assemble. I recommend having a builders square to make sure everything is squared up or your bed install will be off, and you’ll force the bed mounting holes to line up which is not good. The installation manual is not the best, but there are YouTube videos showing assembly. Just search for it. I used an assembly video of a none pro model and it’s pretty close. Once assembled, follow the instructions on leveling and Z offset. This is important or you’ll crash the nozzle into the bed, or be super far away. You can use Cura with CR-10 profile to get starting with slicing, but change the bed size. You can use the tronxy slicer that comes on the SD card too. The printer, when tweaked correctly, will print very good. The auto bed level does work, but make sure that Z offset is done right, again follow the directions. The build quality is quite good. Almost everything is metal. The belts were not difficult to install for me. It’s not too loud in my opinion, but I have it in another room not disturbing anything.

I originally bought the TronXY X5SA. I build it was impressed with the printer. I initially saw the pro version but decided to go with the standard X5SA. Well. I decided to give the standard one to my grandkids and bought the Pro version. The X5SA Pro is a nice setup. Fewer Acrylic bits, only 4. The rest is metal. I had the same issue with needing to clear the holes in the Z axis motor mounts so the vertical slide rails can fit. With the upgraded guide rails and trolley wheels, I did find some jerkiness in the movement. This was caused by some residue on the trolley wheels. This cleaned up easily with a Q-tip and some rubbing alcohol. After that, no issue. The rest of the build was straight forward and uneventful. everything fits and lines up well. The touch panel works fine. I find you can drive the Axis past the maximum limit. I will see if there is a way to turn the software stop on. I still wish ( original X5SA review ) the firmware was open and easier to modify, but it does work well. Could add some touches like position display when on a page that lets you move an axis, but not a deal breaker. Over all it works well. I think the upgraded parts are worth the cost difference from the standard version.

Took 5 hours to build very impressed with the quality materials and very sturdy. Larger than I expected but overall good size and great printing foot print. I contacted customer support and they were very helpful and friendly. I would definitely recommend this product to any 3D enthusiast.
