READ: "it has problems, but for the price, it greatly exceeded my expectations. I like it." How i use it: this is a discount "wildlife cam" for me. It sits outside in a security-cam weatherproof box, and if i want to know whether there is snow on the ground, or ice, or various conditions, i can text it from **anywhere** and it sends me back a picture with just enough resolution for me to barely tell what i am looking at. Was useful in answering my frequent questions of "do i need snowchains today to drive down this road?" or my 2nd favorite "is the road flooded out?". Opinions of the device: its basically a crummy webcam paired to a crummy cellphone in a tiny easy-to-loose package. Its very confusing to use. There are very few technology related contraptions that baffle me. I can write code, i know how to use an oscilloscope and build circuits, id say i'm fairly advanced in the category of "making things go". This products problem is that it does a lot of cool things and is jam packed with features, but you and this device have no way of really interacting with eachother when it wont respond to your texts. No screen, no flashing LEDs, nothing to really clue you into how its acting when you are using a lousy cellular-provider (poor signal was my problem). This is important, when it comes to "patience" with these gadgets. I mounted mine in a location with questionable cell coverage, and had quite a headache sorting out the chicken-and-egg of whether this device was not talking to the carrier, whether my phone was the problem, whether there was a network outage.. if this little thing just had a LED on it that would blink and let you know when it is upset, i would have felt far less "condemned to futility" in troubleshooting this. The manual leaves something to be desired, a bit of clarity in the translation. Its instructions are confusing, but if you understand how this device works / how cellular networks behave, most of what the manual is getting at should be readily apparent. If you are not the kind of person who likes to fiddle around with dry boring details of tech gadgets, this device might test your patience to its breaking point. There isn't a screen, a menu, no flashing LEDs to tell you whether its talking to the cellular network or not, you just have to press the SIM card in and set a few hours aside. The actual setup process is only a few minutes, really, just press the SIM card in, plug in the power connector, text it and see if it texts back. It took me longer to open the packaging it came in, than i spent getting it to talk to my phone over SMS/MMS. I say to set a few hours aside, because we all know how fast time goes by when you are playing with your phone! ;) Design Flaw: the circuit/board/camera guts inside can move around, the camera sensor is in a slot and this slot can allow the camera sensor to slide just a few millimeters past the pin-hole in the body. Mine for example, if you tap the camera/body against a table, will slam the sensor deep into its slot, and any pictures you get will be halfway cut-off. I opened it up and put a folded up little piece of paper in the slot to keep it from moving too much. Maybe some glue might work as well. Summary: Picture quality is lousy, "potato cam" as they say. But regardless, this thing has a lot going for it. So cheap its almost free, tiny, has its own battery, super simple (no buttons, just turn it on and go). It is a great buy for the price, and does exactly what its supposed to!

  • QDo you know what carrier for the sim card works with this X009 gps tracker? I have tried Ting and another SIM carrier. Their SIM did not work.
