so glad I bought it. Yes it is easy to fill that can be done. The other day we had really high winds, my umbrella sits 4 feet off the ground on a deck. I can say this stand does its job very well. Also it is soft to place you feel onto while sitting if you use it with a table. One down side is I can barely move it if I desire to relocate my umbrella, it's that heavy! Highly recommend. A tip is when filling use a funnel and it makes the job easier. You only have to fill once so it's worth the effort for the stability.

Purchased a large 12 foot double umbrella and needed a significantly heavy base (they recommend 30 to 50 lbs.) but couldn't find one which could simply stand alone with it and also make me feel comfortable or confident that it wouldn't blow over or sway when a breeze comes through. Purchased this item to place on top of existing regular base, filled it with 20-50 lbs. of sand, easy to fill, and it works like a charm. I read one review which mentioned using something to prop it up at an angle so the sand would fill since it's like a hollow doughnut and used that idea, put a couple of large rocks under the side with the flap so the sand would fill evenly and then removed the rocks when I was done. I would recommend having it about where you are going to want it when you fill it as it's quite heavy once filled and not easy to move around. I used a scoop for the sand for easier filling and the Velcro closure made it simple to close. I've been pleased and impressed with this item; it's affordable, easy to fill, and works like a charm for my purposes...can't imagine having this big umbrella without it, would never feel quite comfortable in its stability. If there's something better out there I haven't run across it yet.

We purchased this for our little bistro table. Our umbrella was always taking down the table whenever there was wind. We spent more time dealing with the effects of the wind than actually enjoying using the table. After doing considerable research we found this product. We ordered a bag of play sand, like that used in a sand box, to fill the GRAVIPOD. The opening to fill it is the perfect size and has some heavy duty velcro keeping it closed. We first slipped this over the umbrella stand and then placed the table over that. We then inserted the umbrella. It was filled after everything was put together. That way we weren't trying to manipulate a heavy sand bag. The sanbag sits on bottom of the umbrella base and does not detract aesthetically at all. It is made of heavy duty material so I think it should last.

I set up my umbrella without the sand bag in what I thought was a pretty heavy stand. In less then 15 minutes in what I considered only a breeze the umbrella toppled over. After putting the bag filled with sand, the umbrella has stayed up in some pretty significant winds. As a plus I was able to fold up the umbrella cover and store it in the Velcro opening for easy access.

I've never seen an umbrella base that is wear in like this, but it works very well and quite securely. Very simple, and easy to put together, as it clicks into place when tightening. Because of the way it's held together in place, it's very easy to just pickup and move around.
